I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Hyper Japan at Olympia London this summer with Violet. Violet has recently become a huge fan of Kawaii style drawing and anime. We made a real day of it, starting with getting ready at home in cute colourful outfits. I wore a 1960’s Japanese print gown I bought years ago at the Camden Stables and Violet wore her new pink swallow print dress by Question Everything and her fave painted cowboy boots by Shoesme with a headband by Porter Colline. I’ve recently been working with a new cruelty free and vegan beauty brand called Cult Candy Cosmetics, which have the most beautifully pigmented eyeshadows and matte lipsticks so we really went for it with colourful eyes and lips. The event was absolutely massive with something for everyone! V loved looking at the fashion but it was the sweets, puddings, stationary and small toys that were the biggest hit. V bought a surprise bag from Kawaii vendor Tofu Cute and many little gifts for her sihttps://www.tofucute.com/sters too. We really loved the live artists and ended up commissioning a pencil sketch of Violet and Poppy as anime characters as a gift for Poppy’s birthday. V also had the chance to design a character and have it animated which was free and really fun! There was lots of food and drink and the stalls were really busy so next time I think we’ll definitely eat first. There were lots of lovely food samples for tasting everywhere too. We adored watching all the amazing cosplayers but I didn’t photograph them because I don’t like it when people take photos without permission and V was feeling a little shy to ask. It was a wonderful day out for the two of us and I can’t wait to do it again. The next event is Edo Matsuri 29 Nov – 1 Dec. Check out the Hyper Japan website for more details!
