This past weekend I went away on location to shoot the new campaign for my branding client Feather and Bone. We travelled to a village called East Kennett where we stayed in a Manor house where Winston Churchill and Queen Mary have stayed. While scouting locations I stood in for the model so that we could get test shots to go over with the designer when she arrived. I’m glad I decided to wear my birthday dress – a tulle number chosen from the sale rack at Topshop by Violet. It’s not something I would have normally been confident to wear because I think of the tulle trend as being a bit ‘young” but I decided to embrace my inner Iris Apfel and go for it because of the way her eyes lit up when I tried it on. If I’m honest it makes the little girl in my heart squeal with glee. I guess my return to modelling may still be a few years off though as after writing this post I discovered the test shots had been overwritten on the memory card so here I am modelling the Jessamine playsuit by Feather and Bone in my garden. The playsuit/jumpsuit is another style I was sure I was destined to never wear because of my apple figure. Because I love beer, cake, and french fries dipped in Siracha Vegan Mayo so much and I don’t believe in diets I thought my thicker waist would exempt me from this super cute trend forever. I am pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and chic this look is. It drapes on the hip and is just low enough in the front to be a bit flirty. I may not look like a model in it, but it truly doesn’t matter. I look like me. So, if there’s a style you love but don’t think you can wear just keep trying and keep an open mind. You may just surprise yourself.
